Limo Hire Guides & Advice
Gatwick Airport Limo Transfer Planning Guide
Gatwick is not simply another London airport with a different postcode. It has two separate terminals, specific forecourt and pickup arrangements, a road approach centred on the M23, and a journey into London that can change significantly depending on which side of the capital your passengers are travelling from.
Practical guidance from the Limo Hire in London booking team | Last reviewed 17 September 2026
Gatwick is often described as a London airport, but geographically it sits well south of the capital. That matters when you are organising chauffeur-driven transport from Central, West, North or East London because the airport run can form a substantial journey before passengers even reach the terminal.
The airport also handles departures and arrivals differently from the casual idea of a driver pulling up outside, waiting for as long as necessary and then leaving when the passenger appears. Gatwick has defined drop-off, parking and collection arrangements that need to be considered when the transfer is planned.
The result is that a good Gatwick limo booking starts with five facts: the terminal, flight, London address, passenger count and luggage.

View London Airport Limo HireGatwick North Terminal
North and South are separate transport destinations.
Do not send a booking that simply says Gatwick Airport if the terminal is already known. North Terminal has its own approach, drop-off area and pickup arrangements.
For an arrival:The chauffeur needs the North Terminal collection plan, not a generic airport meeting point.
For a departure:Passengers should be taken to the terminal their flight is actually using rather than dropped wherever is most convenient.
Gatwick South Terminal
The same airport does not mean the same front door.
South Terminal uses a different terminal approach and its own pickup areas. Confirming South Terminal in advance prevents unnecessary movement across the airport campus.
Do not guess from the airline name:Terminal assignments can vary and some operators use more than one terminal. Use the actual flight information where possible.
If the terminal changes:Update the booking team so the chauffeur is working from the same information as the passenger.
What Is Different About Gatwick Drop-Off and Pickup?
The biggest practical distinction is simple: dropping somebody at Gatwick and collecting somebody from Gatwick are not the same road operation.
Departure drop-off
A departure can use the relevant terminal drop-off zone for unloading passengers and luggage. These areas are intended for short stays rather than waiting around for extended goodbyes or reorganising bags at the kerb.
Arrival pickup
Passenger collections are handled through the airport’s parking and pickup arrangements, which means an arrival transfer has to allow for the passenger becoming ready and the chauffeur reaching the agreed meeting arrangement.
Roadside waiting
A chauffeur cannot solve an uncertain arrival time by parking on an airport approach road until the passenger calls. The booking needs a legitimate waiting and collection plan.
Meet and greet
If the chauffeur is expected to leave the vehicle, meet the passenger inside and assist with luggage, suitable airport parking time has to form part of the collection.
Gatwick-specific details – reviewed 17 September 2026
These are real airport mechanics worth knowing before you compare quotes.
Charges and airport arrangements can change, so these details should be reviewed periodically rather than treated as permanent.
This is one reason two companies can quote differently for what sounds like the same Gatwick journey. One quote may reflect airport waiting, parking or meet-and-greet requirements that another enquiry has not yet described.
The useful question is not whether airport charges exist in the abstract. It is whether your confirmed Gatwick quotation covers the airport arrangement you actually want.
The London-to-Gatwick Road Journey Is Part of the Booking
Gatwick’s main motorway approach connects directly with the M23, with the airport reached around Junction 9. From London, however, the route before the M23 depends heavily on where the passengers begin.
That is why a generic “London to Gatwick” journey time is not especially useful for limo planning.
South London
Croydon and other southern areas can be well positioned for Gatwick compared with journeys starting north of the Thames. Several passenger pickups can still add significant time before the vehicle reaches the main airport route.
Central London
Hotel access, morning traffic and luggage loading in Mayfair, Westminster, Kensington or the West End should all be considered before relying on a simple airport mileage figure.
East London
Canary Wharf, Stratford and surrounding areas need to be planned around the full London journey rather than the final motorway approach alone.
North London
If several travellers also need collecting across North or Central London, simplifying the meeting points can be especially valuable.
West London
A passenger accustomed to Heathrow being relatively accessible from West London should recognise that Gatwick is a different road journey to the south of the capital.
Gatwick Departure and Arrival Bookings Need Different Information
Needed so passengers are delivered to the correct departure terminal.
Needed so the chauffeur uses the correct arrival-side parking or pickup arrangement.
Useful for understanding the fixed departure deadline.
Important for identifying the arriving service and planning the collection.
Tell us when passengers want to reach the terminal.
The landing time alone is not the passenger-ready time.
Needs to fit before the group can leave London.
The expected bag count should be known before the chauffeur arrives to collect.
Determines the real beginning of the airport journey.
Determines the full onward route and final vehicle requirement.
A Gatwick Arrival Does Not Start When the Aircraft Touches Down
This deserves emphasis because it affects waiting time and airport collection planning.
An arriving passenger has several steps between landing and being physically ready to enter the chauffeur’s vehicle.
The aircraft lands
This is useful flight information, but it is not a chauffeur pickup time.
Passengers leave the aircraft
The time involved can vary according to where the aircraft parks and the way passengers are brought into the terminal.
The passenger completes the arrivals process
The journey through the airport depends on the passenger and flight. International arrivals may have more to do before reaching baggage reclaim and the public arrivals area.
Luggage is collected
A passenger travelling with checked cases is not ready simply because the flight has landed.
The agreed meeting takes place
The passenger and chauffeur use the collection arrangement included in the booking.
The London journey begins
Only at this point does the Gatwick-to-London road transfer actually start.
Why not just give the chauffeur a landing time?
Because it encourages the wrong expectation.
If a flight is scheduled to land at 14:10, that does not mean a stretch limo should be sitting in a pickup bay at 14:10 with the meter running while the passenger is still inside the terminal.
Give the flight information and agree how the collection will be handled.
Gatwick Limo Hire for Early-Morning Flights
Gatwick is heavily used for leisure travel, which means airport limo enquiries often involve very early departures.
An early flight can mean a London collection in the middle of the night or very early morning.
That changes the booking in several ways:
- passengers should be completely ready before the agreed pickup;
- all luggage should be packed and downstairs where practical;
- additional home pickups should be kept sensible;
- the correct terminal should already be confirmed;
- the booking should use the required airport arrival time rather than guessing from the flight time;
- the lead passenger should have a phone switched on and audible.
A limousine arriving at 3am should not spend 20 minutes waiting while eight passengers finish packing.
Group Holiday Transfers Are Where Luggage Causes the Biggest Mistakes
Gatwick is a natural airport for group holidays, birthdays abroad, hen and stag trips and family travel.
That often makes a Hummer, SUV limousine or another group vehicle attractive.
But the larger the group, the more important luggage becomes.
Consider these four groups. Their passenger count does not tell the whole story.
The passenger requirement may dominate the decision because luggage is relatively limited.
The same passenger number creates a completely different airport vehicle requirement.
A luxury SUV may be more useful than choosing a stretch limo purely for spare passenger seats.
Do not choose the vehicle until the luggage arrangement has been discussed as well as the permitted passenger capacity.
Our passenger capacity guide explains why maximum seating and usable space should be considered separately.
A Stretch Limo Is Not Automatically the Best Gatwick Vehicle
Airport limo hire can mean a traditional stretched vehicle, but the right chauffeur-driven option depends on why you are booking.
Choose a stretch limousine when the journey is part of the occasion
This naturally suits:
- friends beginning a holiday together;
- birthday trips;
- hen and stag groups;
- honeymoon departures;
- surprise Gatwick pickups;
- a family celebration abroad;
- travellers who specifically want the limousine experience.
Consider a luxury SUV when practicality matters more
A smaller family, executive passenger or VIP guest may prefer a vehicle with easier access and more conventional luggage usability.
Meet-and-Greet Is More Than the Chauffeur Holding a Name Board
If you are booking a Gatwick collection for an overseas client, family member or VIP guest, decide what level of arrival service you actually need.
There is a difference between:
- a passenger making their own way to an agreed pickup area;
- a chauffeur parking and meeting the passenger in arrivals;
- a chauffeur helping a guest with luggage;
- a corporate or VIP arrival where presentation matters;
- a surprise collection where the passenger does not know a limo has been booked.
Those arrangements affect how the chauffeur uses the airport and how the booking should be timed.
For somebody unfamiliar with London, clarity matters more
If the arriving passenger is an international visitor, give the booking team useful contact information and make sure the passenger knows how the collection is intended to work.
A beautifully presented vehicle is of little value if the guest is standing in one terminal trying to find a chauffeur waiting somewhere else.
North Terminal or South Terminal: Check the Flight, Not Your Memory
Passengers who use Gatwick frequently sometimes assume they know which terminal an airline uses.
That is not a good basis for a chauffeur booking.
Terminal arrangements can change, and some airline operations can use both terminals depending on the flight.
Use the actual flight information available for the date of travel. If the terminal changes after the limo has been booked, send the update.
What If You Are Collecting Passengers From Both Terminals?
This can happen when a larger group arrives on different flights.
Do not describe it as one Gatwick pickup and assume the chauffeur will work the rest out on the day.
Give:
- both flight numbers;
- both terminal details;
- the passenger numbers on each flight;
- the expected luggage from each group;
- the final London destination;
- any priority about which group should be collected first.
Depending on the timing, it may be possible to structure one vehicle movement, or separate vehicles may be more sensible.
If one flight lands several hours earlier than the other, keeping the first passengers waiting simply so everybody can use one limousine may not be the best experience.
What Airport Costs Can Affect a Gatwick Quote?
A limo quotation may need to account for more than the road mileage between London and Gatwick.
Depending on the service, relevant factors can include:
- terminal forecourt access;
- Short Stay parking for collections;
- waiting time;
- meet-and-greet requirements;
- additional passenger pickups;
- the vehicle’s positioning before or after your booking;
- the time of day;
- the complete London route.
This is why an airport quotation should be based on the complete booking rather than a generic per-mile figure.
Our guide to what is included with limo hire explains how to distinguish normal service elements from journey-specific extras.
What Information Produces the Most Accurate Gatwick Limo Quote?
Instead of sending:
How much is a limo to Gatwick?
Send something closer to:
Eight passengers travelling from Canary Wharf to Gatwick North Terminal on 12 October. We need to arrive at the terminal by 05:30 and will have eight large suitcases and six cabin bags.
For an arrival:
Four passengers arriving at Gatwick South Terminal on flight XX123. They have four checked cases and need a chauffeur collection to a hotel in Mayfair.
Those details answer most of the questions that genuinely determine the transfer.

Explore Airport Limo Hire LondonThe Gatwick-Specific Details Are What Make This Guide Worth Having
A useful Gatwick guide should not be a Heathrow article with one airport name replaced.
Gatwick has two terminals with distinct approaches. Departure passengers can use terminal forecourts, while arrivals require a different pickup or parking arrangement. Airport roads contain no-stopping restrictions. The road journey from much of London is substantial enough that the passenger’s starting area genuinely changes the plan.
Those are the details that help somebody make a better booking.
Once the airport mechanics are understood, the limo choice becomes much simpler: choose a vehicle that works for the people, the luggage and the kind of airport experience you want.
